The New Year

January 4, 2011

The Roman god Janus — whose name is the root word for January — is depicted with two faces, one looking back and one looking forward.

Our New Year’s traditions reflect this theme, as we make resolutions and set goals, taking the arbitrary turn of the calendar as an auspicious occasion to make new beginnings.

As we begin a new year, what things from the past are you ready to put away? What do you hope to accomplish before the next new year dawns? Use the comments to share your thoughts, if you feel so moved.

I am looking forward to a new minister at our church – someone who gives us a fresh perspective and can inspire a multicultural community with diverse ideas, backgrounds, and beliefs. It’s a lot to ask, but I know we can do it, because that’s what Davies church is all about.
