“Born Again? Or is Once Enough?” Wed. in Camp Springs, Maryland

July 27, 2010

Born Again? Or is Once Enough? Adult UU Theology class, Wed July 28, 7:30 – 9 PM. American Unitarianism owes its existence to the Great Awakening, a Christian revival movement that swept across the American Northeast in the 1740s. It called for adherents to be born again, disparaged science, and emphasized emotional excitement over rational thought. Sound familiar? But how did this give birth to Unitarianism?

In this session, we’ll be looking at the life of Charles Chauncy, minister of Boston’s largest Congregational church from 1727 through 1787, as we consider the relationship between religious liberalism and revivalist movements. We’ll also think about what kind of faith really feeds us.

You are welcome to attend, even if you haven’t been to any of the previous sessions.
